Ministry in the City HUB Update, October 2025

Dear HUB friends,

We are excited to share a few updates with you this month.

We look forward to gathering more than 60 HUB network members in New York City next week for the annual fall convening. We are excited to have this time together to orient newer members of our network, as well as reconnect and deepen relationships.

We will be releasing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for 2025-26 Affinity Working Groups (AWG) and HUB Local Gatherings (HLG) early next week. We will host an in-person informational session during the convening, and an online informational session the following week on November 10 (1-2 PM EDT). Look out for the RFP email in your inboxes next week! Please note updates in eligibility.

Food and Fellowship is coming up on November 17 (12-1p EDT), so please don’t forget to RSVP and let us know you’ll be joining us.

Please keep us posted with updates and prayer requests. We are so grateful for you and for all that God is doing in your midst!

Peace, Maria and Mark (with the HUB team)

HUB Fall Convening 2025
NET-MAKING
We look forward to hosting our largest annual gathering ever with more than 60 of our HUB network spending time together in New York City on November 5-7, 2025. The purpose of our time together (#notaconference) is to learn from and encourage each other, to orient participants to the purpose and approach of the HUB learning network, and to build capacity through experiential and place-based activities. We’ll be offering an optional “Cultivating Learning Communities” workshop this year, and making space for resource-sharing over lunch conversations. We’ll share highlights on our HUB Fall Convening webpage here.
Request for Proposals: Affinity Working Groups and HUB Local Gatherings
GRANT STEWARDING
This fall, we are announcing a request for proposals for HUB network members to gather small process groups for topical reflection (AWG) or to host a gathering or two in their city or neighborhood around a pressing question (HLG). The guidelines for eligibility for these grants have been updated. Please note that those who have been invited to this year’s convening will be eligible to apply. Current AWG and HLG grantees (2025-26) will not be eligible to apply again.

More information will be sent out next week, and an in-person informational session will be held during the fall convening. An online informational session is scheduled for November 10, 2025 1-2 PM EDT. Applications will be due December 1, 2025.
Light Breaking Out
STORY-TELLING
In this second season of Light Breaking Out, we focus on “Creative Community Care: Artists Respond to Pandemic Times,“ an interactive traveling group exhibit exploring concerns and questions arising from COVID-19 and racial violence at the intersection of the arts, learning, faith, and the city. In this first episode of the season, we learn about the virtual artist residency that gave rise to this exhibition. We meet Sarah Gerth ven dan Berg, who co-curated this exhibit with Maria Liu Wong, and hear their reflections on the process and work. Listen here
Picture Collection Reflection
RESOURCE SHARING
Images can be helpful starting points for us to respond to as we consider a topic or a question for discussion. They provide a common point of reference to unpack or unearth differing perspectives. Commercially curated decks might provide a helpful range of images, but you can also start your own collection of images (choosing postcards or picture cards from museum shops).

Join us at our next Food and Fellowship on Nov 17 (12p EDT) to hear from HUB network members as they share other helpful resources and practices.

November 05, 2025
As the HUB learning network grows, we see the fall convening as an important time to gather as #notaconference. It is a time of orientation and re-framing, of formation and deepening who we are in relationship to each other, to God, and to our ministry contexts.
