Ministry in the City HUB Update, Summer 2026

Dear HUB friends,

Happy summer! We hope you are finding time for rest and renewal during this season.

In late June, we hosted a wonderful four-day HUB Summer Camp with 15 pastors, artists, and ministry leaders (featured above) focused on cultivating learning communities. We spent time on campus and around the city, expanding our learning context to the streets, the Whitney Museum, the Joyce Theater, and up to the Bronx, to Yankee Stadium! We even took part in the historic festivities celebrating the Knicks championship! It was an unforgettable week.

This month and next, we are getting ready for the fall and the launch of a new season of net-making communities: Affinity Working Groups for Asian-American ministry leaders and Next Generation leaders, an inaugural cohort of our HUB Women in Leadership and Ministry (WILAM) initiative, as well as a Pastoral Community of Practice.

We look forward to seeing you online and in person at some point! We’ll be keeping you in prayer in the meantime. Send us updates!

Highlights
HUB Summer Camp 2026
NET MAKING
At our 2026 HUB Summer Camp in June, net-making became visible through the practice of weaving together. The loom became a central symbol and practice throughout the week, as we worked together to weave strips of textile from participants’ learning communities into a beautifully complex tapestry. Participants were then encouraged to take this practice of net-making into their own contexts, thinking about how they can weave learning communities in their own cities.
This Light of Mine
GRANT STEWARDING
In her continuing work with youth, Toyin Omolola with The Timothy Project hosted “This Light of Mine – A Youth Retreat on Faith, Purpose & Courage” to create spaces for youth to explore faith, identity, leadership, and service. A total of 24 participants between the ages of 13 and 26 attended, representing 12 Nigerian Churches in the diaspora from Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Long Island. Through the scripture reflections and discussion sessions participants were able to explore and discover the significance of identity, self-worth, and purpose from a faith-centered perspective. Praxis Groups
RESOURCE SHARING
During HUB Summer Camp 2026, 15 pastors, ministry leaders, artists, and theological educators were assigned to smaller praxis groups to explore a question or a concern in their ministry or life. We are sharing both the Preparation Form participants received in advance and the Facilitator’s Guide in hopes that these will be resources to help form praxis groups for your own contexts.
Christ, Culture and Community Speakers Series
STORYTELLING
HUB Grantee Wanda Frenchmen is organizing a series of upcoming events featuring keynote speakers that address subjects of interest to Indigenous communities. Their first event will be held on August 15 at the Phoenix Indian School, and their keynote speaker, Prairie Rose Seminole, will explore Christ and culture. Seminole is an educator, film maker, culture bearer, and storyteller. To learn more about this series, click here.
