Gleaning Project Brings a Year of Collaborative Artmaking to Exhibition
On June 5, the Gleaning Project opened Net Works: Structures of Mutuality, a public exhibition at Neighbor in Chelsea, bringing together artwork created through a year of collaborative artmaking. Using reclaimed materials such as plastic bags, produce nets, tea bags, and other discarded materials, participants worked alongside the artist Noemia Marinho to transform what is often overlooked into works of art.
The exhibition celebrated not only the finished work, but also the relationships and community that developed through the Gleaning Project’s weekly workshops. Throughout the year, participants gathered to learn new skills, contribute meaningfully to the creative process, and experience a consistent space for connection and belonging.
The opening brought participants, artists, partners, friends, and supporters together to celebrate what had been created and the people who made it possible. The exhibition reflected the Gleaning Project’s belief that caring for people and caring for the Earth can be part of the same creative practice.
