Coverings: An Exploration of Plastic, Fashion, and Humanity in Chelsea

This summer, The Gleaning Project debuted Coverings: An Exploration of Plastic, Fashion, and Humanity in Chelsea, showcasing over a dozen upcycled purses and large-scale installations made from reclaimed plastic bags. Created in collaboration with eight participants from partner organizations—including The Salvation Army, Restore NYC, Nora House, and All Angels’ Pathways program—the exhibition drew a diverse audience and sparked dialogue on sustainability and the social value of art. The project provided paid opportunities for participants to build skills and see their work professionally exhibited, while strengthening partnerships that will support the growth of our year-round workshops and community impact.
