Summer at El Refugio

Summer at El Refugio has been a busy time of transitions: many shelter residents have departed for more permanent transitional housing through county resources (e.g., hotels), but new families have also arrived with needs- especially care and resources for children. We are currently housing 11 kids, many of whom are now preparing for fall enrollment in local schools. The team is also taking the summer to create opportunities for community building and recreation, something especially important while the kids are not in school. Broader community engagement has continued through organizing and networking efforts, workshops and trainings offered at local churches, and collaboration with local non-profits to provide basic resources like groceries and hygiene supplies.
