Welcome to the Jubilee Center

After years of preparation and prayer, Little Lights Urban Ministries officially opened the Jubilee Center in Ward 7 in January 2026. This 6,000-square-foot renovated church building in the Twining neighborhood represents the largest expansion in Little Lights’ 30-year history. Within days of receiving the certificate of occupancy, staff welcomed more than 30 students to Homework Club, the organization’s after-school tutoring program, with capacity to grow to 60 students. Little Lights also merged its Hilltop Center site into Jubilee, adding transportation from the Benning Heights neighborhood, and established a new partnership with nearby Kimball Elementary School to provide 24 dedicated program slots for their students. Cierra Peterson, College and Career Program Manager and herself a Little Lights alumna, has been instrumental in welcoming students and families to the new site, embodying the generational impact the Jubilee Center is designed to multiply.

Two things Little Lights is learning: First, that community hunger for this space is real and immediate. Enrollment moved quickly, and families responded to the Jubilee Center with a trust that took years to build at other Little Lights locations, a reminder that infrastructure and invitation together open doors that neither can alone. Second, the arts have emerged as a natural entry point for students at the new site. As Jubilee programming takes shape, staff are exploring how music, visual arts, and creative expression can deepen academic engagement and social-emotional growth, building on the holistic, Christ-centered model that has guided Little Lights for three decades.
